Spring & Easter idioms




Hi! Sunny spring has just come and everyone seems to be more cheerful and full of energy than during those miserable winter days (brrrr...). Easter is coming soon and I hope you have sent or handed in cards to your family and friends. If not, this post can help you write beautiful wishes: Easter wishes . In this post you will find lots of new English idioms - they all have a word associated with spring or Easter, for example: egg, bunny, sun, rabbit, basket, sheep, grass or just... spring!
All the idioms I have chosen for this post are used commonly in everyday English language.

to be full of energy and joy that the spring season has come

to encourage or persuade someone to do something risky

to act overly carefully to avoid upsetting someone

 The littlest thing tends to anger my boss, so everybody feels like they have to walk on eggshells around her. I'm hoping to find a new job soon as this constant tension in unbearable!

to not to be young anymore, rather old

nie być pierwszej młodości/ mieć swoje lata/nie mieć już osiemnastu lat

Pamiętacie, że 'spring' to nie tylko 'wiosna', ale także 'sprężyna' ?

This post begins a new series on the blog - English idioms. According to the Oxford dictionary an idiom is a group of words whose meaning is different from the   meanings of the individual words.  We don't treat them literally, we need to find a deeper sense. That's why idioms might be tricky for foreign learners. If we want to use them correctly we need to learn them by heart. Valentine's Day - IDIOMS & Top Ten British romantic movies

Love love love... Love is all around - as the British pop band Wet Wet Wet used to sing (yes yes, it's the song from the film that probably everybody knows:'Four weddings and a fineral') :) Love is in the air especially before and on the 14th of February. Some of us love Valentine's day, some hate it saying that this day has nothing to do with love, that it's just an artificial feast invented to earn money.  Opponents claim that people ought to show each other love every day, not only on one day a year! It's hard to disagree with this opinion... But maybe it's not such a bad idea to devote a whole day or at least an evening (let's say 14 th of February) for the one we love? Celebrate our love in a special way...?  What about those who love in secret? Isn't it a perfect day to say the subject of admiration that we love him/her? Send a letter, email or a valentine card?
